Defining ‘Europe’ in Medieval European Geographical Discourse

Exhibition

Illustrations

The enclyclopedic texts of the Imago mundi family are sometimes illustrated. The Latin text usually has no illustrations, but sometimes is accompanied by a world map (a mappa mundi). Some of the adaptations and translations of this text, however, have many illustrations, often coloured. These are often used to explain the difficult concepts in the text.
